Registered dietitian Jillian Kubala explains that research has shown foods containing "polyphenols, omega-3 fats, and carotenoids, help prevent and combat inflammation by modulating inflammatory pathways in the body and decreasing inflammatory proteins." Kubala offers a list of a dozen foods rich in these healthful compounds, which includes fruit, vegetables, fatty fish, cacao, herbs and spices, and olive oil.
